Back to Our Passion for Ancient Rock Art
Most rock sites we visit take a lot of time and research to locate. This site in the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge was fairly easy to find.
The trail follows the remains of an old road.
When we reached the lake, we began scouring the basalt cliff faces for petroglyphs.
Our search quickly yielded rewards. The amazing petroglyphs here were of horned lizards and ghostly figures.
This excellent site was well worth visiting.
It was midday when we turned back toward the truck.
We spent our last night of this wonderful adventure at Mill Creek Falls Campground in the South Warner Mountains. It was quiet, only two other campsites were occupied, and we took a private site away from others.
Clear Lake is about a mile hike up from the campground, inside the South Warner Wilderness.
We spent the evening at Clear Lake. A bald eagle was perched across the lake from us. The Lady enjoyed the opportunity to use her see mores. The evening was quite nice.
Swarms of tiny midges flew just above the surface. Small trout rocketed out of the water to eat them.
Except for being delayed for almost an hour by a presidential motorcade, our journey home the following day was uneventful.
This adventure for Wilderness trout was incredible, the kind of trip that dreams are made of. We also know how lucky we are and are mindful of that every day.
